Origin
This Variant is based on Harley's incarnation in the DC Animated Universe, specifically her depiction in the 1992 Batman: The Animated Series cartoon show. The outfit that she uses in this incarnation is Harley's most recognizable design, and it has been used in a lot of DC-related animated shows, comic books, video games (especially in the entries from the LEGO Games series) and crossover collaborations. It's title is also most likely a reference to the 1993 one-shot comic book The Batman Adventures: Mad Love.

- According to Eric Stirpē, the main lead writer for MultiVersus, all Fighters from the DC universe in the game are original interpretations that take inspiration from various incarnations without adhering to any adaptation in particular.[1] It's currently unclear if this also refers to Substitute Variants like Mad Love Harley Quinn.
- In Multiversal Mayhem!, the main Harley Quinn says Mad Love Harley Quinn is from a timeline where she did not break up with The Joker.
