Arya Stark is a Fighter from the Game of Thrones Universe in MultiVersus. She was revealed alongside the game itself on November 18th, 2021, and is part of the game's initial release roster, having been playable since the first Tech Test.

Origin

Arya Stark is one of the main point-of-view characters from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and their TV adaptation, Game of Thrones. She is the third child and second daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and his wife, Lady Catelyn Stark, as well as the sister of the incumbent Westerosi monarchs. Her main goal throughout both the book and television series is to avenge her family by joining the Faceless Men and becoming an assassin.

Official Biography

She rejected being a lady. What she became was something far deadlier.

Website

Born the third child of Eddard and Catelyn Stark, Arya never wanted to be a lady or waste time with formality. She thought that was a boring task better left to her siblings. But when her father was murdered and her family deposed, young Arya found herself on a new journey that would take her across Westeros, and eventually to Essos where she trained to be a Faceless Man that transformed her into an accomplished swordswoman and deadly assassin. It was a transformation that would change the course of her life - and all of Westeros - forever.[1]

In-Game

A highly mobile master of Water Dancing-based combos and deadly assassin of the highest order. Steal your enemy's face to keep the rest of the battlefield on their toes.

Default Variant

Arya's default look is based on her appearance from the seventh season of Game of Thrones, where she gains a scar on her forehead. The scar also carries over across all of Arya Stark's other Variants, even if they're based on an outfit Arya has worn before gaining that scar.

Gameplay

Arya is a pure rushdown melee Assassin who specializes in elusiveness and high speed combos, being capable of pinning down her opponents in a flurry of moves, leaving them little time to react. She can effectively do that and put pressure to her opponents through her Side Special, Knife-Thrower, where she throws a knife, which can be attached to enemies, and, when the Side Special is executed again, causes Arya to dash towards her enemies (this can also be used on allies for repositioning/recovering). Other than that her main core mechanic is her ability to "steal" her opponents' faces through her Neutral Special, Face-Stealer, which, once she has a face in her possession, allows her to stun her opponents by using the Neutral Special again.

One of Arya's most important traits is her Turn Attack, a temporary buff that can be bestowed to Arya and her allies through her Down Special, and also whenever she neutral dodges an attack. This buff causes the next attack to break armor and flip the enemy to the opposite direction they're facing.

Arya's high speed and combo potential are offset by a relatively low range and small hitboxes, even though they are disjointed. On top of that, she is among one of the lightest characters in the game, meaning she can be ringed out at significantly low percentages. Nevertheless, her flexibility and powerful movement options makes her deadly in the right hands, specially considering her high skill ceiling.

For 2v2 fights, Arya finds the best in partners that can either keep up with her speed, allowing to keep opponents in constant hitstun to deal massive amounts of damage; Batman is an excellent partner as he can easily close the gap with his Bat-Grapple, while Harley Quinn has plenty of combo options that synergize well with Arya's. Alternatively, heavy and sturdy frontline characters are great to keep her protected, such as Wonder Woman, Iron Giant and Garnet, which helps circumvent some of her weaknesses.

Season 2.01 Patch

  • ! Bug Fix
    • Betrayal signature perk enraged buff will apply 3x weakened stacks as outlined in the previous patch notes

Season 2 Patch

  • - Signature Perk
    • Betrayal perk enrages allies/Arya but they will deal 3x weakened on hit down from 5x.
    • We were finding that weakened influenced the gameplay of Arya and their opponents too greatly at higher level play.

Season 1.05 Patch

  • - Ground/Air Up Special
    • Moved hit frames back 1 frame.
    • Branching to Side Special (Dagger throw) on hit moved back 6 frames.
  • - Ground/Air Side Special:
    • Dagger Hitting Ally or enemy now returns 25% of cooldown down from 50%
    • Betrayal Signature Perk - dagger hitting ally now returns 25% of cooldown down from 50%
    • Branching to Side Special (Dagger throw) on hit moved back 6 frames.
    • Dash to dagger from minimum travel time increased to 0.275 seconds from 0.23 seconds.
  • ! Bug fix
    • Fixed bug where if an enemy died with the knife in them, it would remain in them when they respawned.

Season 1.04 Patch

  • ! Bug Fix
    • Fixed an issue where dashing to the knife on Arya traveling at a downward angle would continue to throw her at speed downwards often causing her death.
  • ! Bug Fix
    • Fixed an issue where Face Steal could cause desyncing and frame rate drops
  • + Ground/Air Up Special
    • Enemies have 70% KBI instead of 100%.
    • This is a stopgap measure before a larger change comes in. The fix is still in testing and since we won't have full confidence in our solution until more testing is done, we have to push it into the next patch. The goal is to make Up Special more consistent and skill based where the opponent has control over the outcome and follow ups from Arya require a read.
  • + Ground/Air Side Special
    • Dash to Knife when attached to enemy hits more consistently when traveling long distances.
  • + Air Up Attack
    • First hit should drop out of the combo less
  • - General
    • Set passive dodge meter return to 7s from 6

Season 1.03 Patch

  • ! Fixed issues where Arya could deal much more damage than intended.
  • ! Neutral Special
    • Fixed issues that were causing hit boxes on stolen attacks to not hit reliably.
    • We are still looking at updates to Arya’s up special, but could use more time to make it right. Expect an update in the near future.

Season 1.02 Patch

  • + Assassin Passive:
    • Removed 5% additional damage taken debuff.
  • - Air/Ground Up Special:
    • Reverted to Early Access version of up special.
    • We were finding that skill and counterplay was being removed from Arya with the addition of the vacuuming effect making follow ups nearly always true. This revert will give opponents the ability to affect the outcome by use of Knockback Influence (KBI) and Arya air control to compensate for the opponent’s KBI.
  • ~ Air/Ground Up Special:
    • Fixed a bug that caused Arya’s dash on hit to stop working after Taz turns her into a chicken.
  • ~ Air/Ground Neutral Special:
    • Fixed an issue with long lingering hitboxes on Arya stolen face neutral special.

Season 1.01 Patch

  • + Assassin Passive:
    • Reduced extra damage taken from 14% to 5%.
      • We’re evaluating if this passive should be removed entirely. We want to take a step towards that while trying to not to go too far too fast. We don’t want to create an assassin dominated meta.
      • Movelist Description of this change will not be updated until the next patch

Season 1 Patch

  • + Air/Ground Up Special - Hitting a fighter will now more accurately launch them at an angle to allow follow-ups for Arya
  • + Air Up Attack - The first hit will now more accurately combo into the second hit.
  • + Neutral Air Attack - Now has earlier branching on hit.
  • + Ground Side Attack - Arya will retain velocity on first hit of side attack.

  • ~ Air/Ground Neutral Special - Fixed a bug where Arya would not copy over capsule hitboxes on her normal neutral attacks when stealing a fighter's face.
    • Set Arya's hurtbox to match her victim's hurtbox while she is disguised as them.
    • Fixed a bug where Arya's top UI would be offset incorrectly when she steals a face.
    • Fixed bug where Arya's disguise attack hitbox could get disconnected.
    • Fixed bug where Arya's original hitboxes would be useable [sic] during disguise attacks.

  • + Aerial and Grounded Up Special: On-hit movement follow is more consistent.
  • + Aerial and Grounded Down Special: Cooldown reduced from 20s to 18s.
    • This is to give Arya a bit more access to armor pierce as the match progresses.
  • + Grounded Up Attack: Has earlier on-hit cancel frames to allow it to combo more reliably.
  • - Side Air Attack: Hitbox was shrunk to better match the attack animation.
  • - Grounded Side Attack 1: More whiff recovery to give the attack a bit more risk for its reward.
