Nubia

Nubia is a Fighter from the DC Universe in MultiVersus. She was revealed on September 10th, 2024, and was released in early access on October 15th, with a full release on October 18th.

Origin

Nubia is a character originating from the DC universe, created by Robert Kanigher and Don Heck. She is best known for being the DCU's first black female superhero, making her debut in issue #204 of the Wonder Woman comics. When she first debuted, she was characterised as the long-lost black fraternal twin of Diana. The relation between the two was retconned following Nubia's return to the comics in 1999, when she became depicted as one of Wonder Woman's greatest allies. Nubia's role in the DCU would be heightened following Diana's death, as she then gained the role of Queen of Themyscira, and eventually shared the title of Wonder Woman with Diana upon her return to the living world. Nubia's presence in comics would continue to grow during the 2020s, headlining the Nubia & the Amazons comic series.

NEUTRAL K	PULL OF CHARYBDIS Using her extended spear, Nubia GRABS an enemy then kicks them away. This attack can be angled up and down as well.	AERIAL CHARYBDIS Similar to ground, but the spear has less range and Nubia punches her enemy instead.
SIDE 🡆 + K	BOOT OF ARTEMIS Nubia launches herself forward with a kick that hits enemies away.	PATH OF ARTEMIS Two aerial kicks that propel Nubia forward. She can change the direction of her second kick.
UP 🡅 + K	RISING WARRIOR Nubia launches herself upward with a spinning kick that hits enemies upward.	RISING WARRIOR While propelling herself upward, Nubia spins and strikes with her spear before delivering an additional strike.
DOWN 🡇 + K	ROYAL STEP Nubia travels quickly to a nearby ally, CLEANSING both of them. She then manifests magical energy that applies KNOCKBACK to all enemies near her. When used near an ally, Nubia will emit an additional burst of energy. This attack will also reflect PROJECTILES.	HUNTER'S SURGE Same as ground.

Trivia

• Early datamines suggest that Nubia was initially conceived as a Variant for Wonder Woman.
  • This is backed up by how her early models and renders show her equipped with a sword and shield, as opposed to a spear.
    • This is also backed up by many in-game voicelines interacting with her also mentioning a shield, such as Evil Morty's, Harley Quinn's, LeBron James', and Marvin the Martian's. Nubia can also mention how her sword and her lasso are "ready" when selecting or interacting with her in the lobby.
• Nubia is currently the only playable Fighter from the DC universe (not counting Variants like the Black Lanterns) to not have had any major appearance outside the comics prior to her addition to MultiVersus, with the small exception of her appearance in the 2011 MMORPG DC Universe™ Online.
