This article is about the Fighter. For the Universe, see Beetlejuice (Universe).

Betelgeuse, pronounced as Beetlejuice, is a Fighter from the Beetlejuice Universe in MultiVersus. He was revealed on July 20th, 2024, during EVO 2024, and was released in early access on August 20th, with a full release on August 23rd.

Origin

Betelgeuse (played by Michael Keaton) is the title character and antagonist of the 1988 film Beetlejuice, and its sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He is an evil ghost who works as a freelance "bio-exorcist" that can be hired by other ghosts to rid their homes of humans. To hire him, all one has to do is say his name three times. His methods are very extreme and is not above murder to get rid of his targets. After nearly killing several living people and trying to marry their daughter Lydia, he is sent back to the Netherworld where he must wait till his number is called, which takes until the film's sequel to happen. A cartoon and musical adaptation were created, which provide a different take on the villain. The animated series features him more as an anti-hero who acts as Lydia's friend, while the musical provides the character more story than the film and expands his character greatly while sticking closely to the original film's plot.

AS A BOSS

Betelgeuse appears as the Boss in the Ghost with the Toast Rift. His Boss battle takes place on a unique Map called Showtime. This map has a "ghoul pool" along the bottom of the blastzone. His fight has seven phases.

  • Betelgeuse fights alone.
  • Betelgeuse teleports into the background, lifts the two middle platforms, and summons sandworms and flying boxing gloves.
  • Betelgeuse re-enters the foreground along with the two middle platforms.
  • Same as the second phase, but now the boxing gloves appear simultaneously with the sandworms.
  • Same as the third phase.
  • Same as the fourth phase, but now the boxing gloves are much bigger.
  • Betelgeuse re-enters the foreground, now giant. The sandworms continue to spawn, and the screen is given a black and white filter.
