Free Character Rotations, also known as Icon Preview Rotations or Preview Fighter Rotations, are a set of limited time events where players get to try out and play as 4 randomly-selected locked Fighters in online matches, without having to pay to play as them.
The game had a total of 71 rotations throughout its lifespan.

Trivia
When Morty released on August 23rd, 2022, Steven and LeBron were briefly replaced by Bugs and Velma in the 3rd Icon Preview Rotation before being fixed.
Both Bugs and Velma were part of the next character rotation on August 30th, 2022.
Gizmo was originally set to be a part of the 13th rotation's set of characters before being quickly replaced by Reindog due to a bug involving players who haven't unlocked Gizmo prior to the rotation being unable to select him then.
Garnet was briefly added as a bonus free character for a week following Iron Giant's brief removal on June 4th, 2024.[1]
The promo video for the 39th rotation accidently uses an earlier render of Jason.
