The Nothing
The Nothing is a mentioned-only non-playable character, as well as an antagonist in MultiVersus, acting as the second biggest threat in the story next to Devoid.
Origin
The Nothing is an original character made for MultiVersus. Very little is known about this character, as the information is limited, but we do get some ideas via Reindog's, Tom & Jerry's, and LeBron James' biographies from the official website.
The Nothing appears to be an omnipotent being who can travel across various Universes, stealing people and objects from wherever it goes. While its intentions are currently unknown, it is hinted at being a malevolent entity bent on the destruction of the entire Multiverse. One of the first worlds to fall victim was Zanifeer, the home world of Reindog.
Within the MutiVersus game itself, The Nothing's only known presence has been the mention of him by Agent Smith and Evil Morty. It is implied that the various cameo objects seen on Trophy's E.D.G.E. have been gathered there by the Nothing itself, treating them as its own "trophies". This could also imply that the very existence of Trophy's E.D.G.E. has been caused by the Nothing.
MultiVersus: Collision Detected
In MultiVersus: Collision Detected, The Nothing is first mentioned in Issue #3 as a "entropic force" trying to erase all the character's Universes. Devoid had taken several of the Fighters from their universes to fight each other in his tournament in his "Imaginarium" as a way to prevent the Nothing (implying he is somehow in control of it).
Trivia
- A popular theory among the MultiVersus community is that the Nothing could be the same character as the main antagonist of the 1979 German fantasy novel The NeverEnding Story and its 1984 movie adaptation made by Warner Bros., since, outside of the fact that both characters have the same name and hail from a WBD-owned property, both entities also share the same theme of universal destruction.
The blast zones on Trophy's E.D.G.E., as seen in Black Adam's Gameplay Trailer.- Given its description in MultiVersus: Collision Detected, it's possible The Nothing is less of a character and more akin to a natural force, again like the above mentioned Nothing from The Neverending Story film.
- Some people theorize that the cosmos-like black blast zone that surrounds every Map could be interpreted as the Nothing itself, slowly consuming each fictional world due to humanity losing its passion in them, like The Nothing does in The NeverEnding Story. This would explain Zanifeer being the first world to be consumed, thanks to its obscurity.
- Coincidentally, the character also shares the exact same name with an overarching antagonist from the 2017 battle royale video game Fortnite.
