Friday the 13th is a fictional Universe represented in MultiVersus.

Summary

Friday the 13th is an American horror franchise that comprises twelve slasher films, a television series, novels, comic books, video games, and tie‑in merchandise. The franchise mainly focuses on the fictional character Jason Voorhees, who was thought to have drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp staff. Decades later, the lake is rumored to be "cursed" and is the setting for a series of mass murders. Jason is featured in all of the films, as either the killer or the motivation for the killings. The original film was written by Victor Miller and was produced and directed by Sean S. Cunningham. The films have grossed over $468 million at the box-office worldwide.

Although the films were not popular with critics, Friday the 13th is considered one of the most successful media franchises in America—not only for the success of the films, but also because of the extensive merchandising and repeated references to the series in popular culture. The franchise's popularity has generated a fanbase who have created their own Friday the 13th films, fashioned replica Jason Voorhees costumes, and tattooed their bodies with Friday the 13th artwork. Jason's hockey mask has become one of the most recognizable images in horror and popular culture.

Trivia

The copyright text seen at the end of the Official "Stars Collide. Pies Fly." Launch Trailer.
  • The Friday the 13th franchise is owned by multiple entities, with Horror Inc. acting as the main IP holder. However, the in-game copyright text lists New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, as being the sole owner of Jason and all related properties. This would cement Friday the 13th as a 2nd-party series in the context of MultiVersus as opposed to either a 3rd-party or pure 1st-party.
  • Jason, and by extension the whole Friday the 13th franchise, might've been added to the game thanks to the Jason Un1v3rse, a multi-platform expansion plan for the character and his series announced in May 2024 which includes new games, immersive experiences, merchandise, and more. The project was made by Horror Inc. and Victor Miller, the creator of the franchise and current owner of its first movie, although it's unknown how involved, if at all, were Warner Bros. Discovery and New Line Cinema in this project.
    • The official Jason Universe Twitter account quote retweeted IGN's tweet regarding Jason joining MultiVersus with the "👀" emoji, implying that the project did have some impact on Jason' inclusion.
