Preseason

Preseason was the first, unofficial, Season of the MultiVersus Open Beta. The Season started on July 19th, 2022 and was originally supposed to conclude on August 8th, although, thanks to unknown reasons, it was delayed to August 15th, 2022.

Official Description

We’re calling these first few weeks (July 19 - August 8) our ‘Preseason’ and it will last until Season 1 kicks off on August 9th. Be on the lookout for some new faces to join the cast of characters in the next few weeks and seasons ahead! We’re keeping things short and sweet with a Preseason Battle Pass that runs from July 19 through August 8. Keep in mind this Battle Pass is shorter than what players can expect to see in future seasons, with a free option that has earnable rewards available to all players. MVPs looking to get the highest tier of earnable cosmetics can also purchase an upgrade to their Battle Pass to unlock the Premium track. ^[1]

Summary

The Preseason was the first Season of the Open Beta period, and the first overall official Season of MultiVersus, being the first one to introduce Cosmetic Items that would carry on to the Full Launch upon obtaining them. The Season formally started on July 26th, 2022, with players who participated in the previous Tech Tests and Closed Alpha gaining early access on July 19th, 2022. New players could've also joined in the game early by either being awarded with certain Twitch Drops or by purchasing one of the three Founder's Packs. All playable Fighters and Maps that were shown in the Tech and Alpha Tests were present at launch, with the addition of the Iron Giant from the franchise of the same name and Space Jam's version of LeBron James joining the cast, alongside the Sky Arena from Steven Universe and Cromulons from Rick and Morty being added as new Maps. The Game Modes available at launch allowed players to participate in matches that could be played alongside/against friends and/or bots in 1 Vs 1, Teams, and Co-Op Vs AI. Other Modes included FFA which allowed players to battle against other players online in matches that featured Items, Create Online Lobby which allowed players to create their own custom lobbies, and the Beginner Tutorial and Advanced Tutorials Modes which taught players the basic and advanced mechanics of the game. The Season's Battle Pass rewards consisted of the Pajama Finn and Cake Variants for Finn the Human and Jake the Dog respectively. The first Summer-themed seasonal event would be hosted this Season. The Season also introduced Gleamium, the original premium Currency of the game. The first MVP Pack, a free booster DLC pack exclusive to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass owners, would also be released this Season.
