Season 1, subtitled Puns & Villainy, was the first Season of MultiVersus following the game's Full Launch.

Summary

Season 1 was the first Season for the formal launch of MultiVersus, beginning on the same day: May 28th, 2024. All Cosmetic Items and Fighters earned from the prior Open Beta Seasons (Preseason, Season 1 (Open Beta), and Season 2 (Open Beta)) were carried over into the full release. A large amount of reworks to the original game's structure were made. Gold was retired opting for a variety of other currency options (such as Fighter Currency and Perk Currency), Gleamium became an earnable for free to play players, the menu UI was changed heavily, and more. A new story focused PvE mode called Rifts was introduced. A new currency called Prestige was created that rewarded players for obtaining over cosmetic items. These Prestige points could then be used to buy exclusive cosmetics from the Prestige store. Many of the game's Fighters were also reworked. All were given a new dash attack, while select characters would receive heavy reworks. Rick and Morty notably received full voice acting replacing their archived audio. Alongside the previous 23, 4 new Fighters were added this season: At launch, Banana Guard from Adventure Time was added as a free reward for logging in-game for at least 2 days, The Joker from DC Comics was offered for 6,000, and Jason Voorhees from the previously unrepresented Friday the 13th franchise was given as the Tier 1 reward of the Season's Battle Pass (this pass was given for free to all Open Beta players). Agent Smith from the also unrepresented The Matrix series was also added as part of the Beat Rifts, Get Agent Smith Free! Event, where players could earn him as early as July 8th, 2024 for free by beating 20 of the Rifts mode's bosses. He was released for all players at the start of the following season. New Maps from previously unrepresented franchises were also added, including The City of Townsville from The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory from the show of the same name. A new version of The Court Map was also added, dubbed "The Court 2". Many new Variants were added, ranging from simple shaders or hats to The Batman Who Laughs over The Joker.
